This area
in Pax is known as “Rock Cliff”. Many of the foundations, buildings, walls and
structures in town are constructed of the native stone found in the area. The
buildings surrounding this wall were constructed ca. 1930 by a prominent local
doctor. They have served in the past as the doctor’s office and post office. At
one time a private residence stood atop the elevated area surrounded by the rock
wall pictured.
The area surrounding Paint Creek has numerous rock outcroppings. Those living here have used local materials to construct many of the homes, places of business and structures in the community of Pax.
