The Upper
Paint Creek Watershed Association has been involved in the past with community
clean-ups, water quality sampling and monitoring, and environmental education
programs as part of the fulfillment of the organization’s mission. Developing
and supporting recreational opportunities which bring the public into close
proximity to Paint Creek is also a goal.
This conceptual plan is a partial fulfillment of that particular goal. The park would include a parking area, swinging bridge, overlooks of the Paint Creek mini-gorge, picnic shelters, restrooms, a fishing pier, RV area and rest area, and a hiking trail through the property. All of these are planned to be easily accessible from the WV Turnpike.
In addition, a power plant, patterned after a historic grist mill which once existed near the park, would provide lighting and at the same time educate visitors about how water can be used to generate electricity.
