This machine shop is one of the last remnants of the Imperial Colliery operations at Burnwell. At the height of its activity this coal company town supported a population of around 3000 individuals. Reflective of many coal mining communities in southern West Virginia there is very little tangible evidence that the once thriving coal town of Burnwell ever existed.
